Hu Jintao
Hu Jintao, Chairman of the People's Republic of China since 2003, joined the Communist Party (CPC) in 1964. Now, he is secretary of the CPC and vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission.
While in office, Hu has concentrated on economic and social domestic issues brought on by China's growth. Thus, the country's GDP is rising, and it is becoming a major influence in the world, leading people to wonder if China and Hu will be a "responsible stakeholder" internationally. Hu is one of the youngest leaders Communist China has ever had, so he is expected to remain at the top of the hierarchy for some time.
Hu was born in the eastern Anhui province, and he studied engineering at Tsinghua University. He is married to Lui Yongqing, and the couple has a son and a daughter.
